Green Smoothies

Not only do they taste great, but they’re also packed with nutrients. This lets you actively enhance your diet and promote vitality and well-being all year round. We’re sharing 3 delicious recipes—3 green smoothies—that will win over even the biggest skeptics.

Green smoothies have an undeserved reputation for being good for your health but tasting terrible. It doesn’t have to be that way. Start with a higher proportion of fruit, which you can reduce over time. That way, your taste buds will gradually adjust. And use only 1–2 types of vegetables—less is more. Otherwise, you might end up with a “flavor explosion” that’s not so great.

It's that easy

We have three smoothie recipes for you to try. All three recipes are so simple that you’ll learn them by heart in no time. Each recipe makes about 3 servings, which you can enjoy throughout the day. Anything you don’t eat right away will keep well in the refrigerator.

Simply blend all the ingredients in a blender for 1–2 minutes—and you're done! To achieve the desired consistency, you can simply adjust the amounts of the individual ingredients.

01 | Fresh and Fruity Smoothie

This smoothie is a great way to get started in the world of green power drinks, as the fruit gives it a slightly sweet and fresh taste. The smoothie works well as a light meal, but also as an appetizer, paired with a few creative bites.

  • about ¼ liter of water
  • 1 small apple
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 2 handfuls of lamb's lettuce or green lettuce (the dark green leaves)
  • a spoonful of coconut butter or thick coconut milk
  • 1 teaspoon of honey or agave syrup
  • 1 squeeze of lemon
  • 1 teaspoon of chlorella powder or 20–30 tablets, each containing 200 mg (= 4–6 g)

02 | Vegetable Smoothie

This vegetable smoothie with chlorella and spirulina is the advanced version for smoothie lovers. The vegetable flavor takes center stage here, and you can even bring it out more with a pinch of salt. If you’d prefer less sweetness, simply reduce the amount of dried fruit.

  • ¼ liter of almond milk or coconut water
  • 2 handfuls of fresh, young spinach leaves
  • 1 pitted avocado
  • 3–5 dried dates or figs
  • a handful of dried goji berries
  • In winter: 1–2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed orange juice
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of chlorella powder or 20–30 tablets, each containing 200 mg (= 4–6 g), and/or
  • 1 teaspoon of spirulina powder or tablets (max. 6 g)
  • If you like: a pinch of salt

03 | Exotic Herb Smoothie

This smoothie calls for a bit of experimentation. The combination of sweet-and-sour pineapple with herbs, paired with mint, makes for a wonderfully refreshing smoothie—especially in the summer!

  • 150 ml thin coconut milk*, mixed with 100 ml water or cold herbal tea (for a total of about 250 ml)
  • 150 g pineapple (preferably fresh), cut into large chunks
  • A handful of mixed fresh herbs: parsley, basil, dandelion, etc.
  • A piece of peeled cucumber
  • Juice from ½ a squeezed lemon and/or 2–3 tablespoons of squeezed grapefruit juice
  • If you have them on hand: a few fresh mint leaves
  • 1 teaspoon of chlorella powder or 20–30 tablets, each containing 200 mg (= 4–6 g)

* For a lower-fat version, you can also use coconut water with a few drops of flaxseed oil (to help absorb the fat-soluble vitamins).

Super-Food Chlorella

Algae are highly nutrient-dense and also have detoxifying properties.

Chlorella
Not only does it give your smoothies a rich green color, but this single-celled freshwater algae is also known for its high nutrient density, particularly in terms of protein, iron, and vitamin B12. That’s why we especially recommend that vegans and vegetarians incorporate this superfood into their diet on a regular basis.

Chlorella is also known for its ability to bind heavy metals. Thanks to this property, it can help you with your "daily detox." Chlorella absorbs toxins in your body, which are then eliminated through the normal digestive process.

For normal use, 3–10 g of chlorella per day is considered safe. Chlorella is generally well tolerated.
